When Wilfred Wikenbach came up with the idea for fantasy football as a way to pass time (and do a little fun spirited wagering) with friends, he likely never had any idea it would grow into and undustry that by some estimates is the most played sports fantasy game in the world.

Each year millions of fantasy football owners gather online, over the phone, or in elaborate draft parties to sculpt a team they think has what it takes to bring home victory every week. While every owner has their own take on the perfect winning formula for fantasy football, the beauty of the game is there is no perfect system, and on any given Sunday any owner can win.

According to many studies, fantasy football has become the top fantasy sport in the world. Although fantasy baseball is believed to generate the most total revenue, fantasy football is primarily accepted as having the most actual participants. The NFL is at this momnet the only major sport that has taken a hands on approach to running a fantasy football arm of their sport. The NHL, NBA, and MLB on the other hand license the right to do so to privately run operations.
